At Kauri Learners we have 2 separate buildings.
One building is catered to our infants and toddlers.  In this building you will find 2 areas.  Te Aroha is an area specially designed for our infants, and Te Kōhanga is our toddler room.
Our other building is specially designed for our older tamariki.  Te Kāinga has a large outdoor environment, with plenty of space for our tamariki to engage in with what ever their hearts desire.

"Children are searching for the meaning of life, we believe in their possibilities to grow, that is why we do not hurry to give them answers: instead we invite them back to think about where the answers might lie, the challenge is to listen" - Carlina Rinaldi

Our Rooms

Te Aroha - Our Infant's Room

Picture
Te Aroha means The Love. Our pēpi room is a calm, nurturing, slow paced environment, with a kaiako to tamariki ratio of 1:3. This allows our pēpi to receive aroha through being nurtured and nourished, loved and embraced in a safe, cosy haven. Trusting relationships are developed through our genuine aroha to ensure little hearts are emotionally supported.

Te Kōhanga - Our Toddler's Room

Te Kōhanga for our toddlers – Te Kōhanga means The Nest. The Nest provides a space for our toddlers to thrive, learn and grow through nurturing heart-centred relationships and care. Our environment provides opportunities for child-led play alongside their kaiako and tamariki. We provide a Kaiako to tamariki ratio of 1:5 for this age group.

Te Kāinga - Our Preschool Building

Picture
Te Kāinga for our young children – Te Kāinga means The Home. The inspiration for our new Kura was to make it feel like a home away from home. When tamariki feel safe and secure, the way we do at home, they can thrive in an environment that helps them develop agency and lead their own learning. Our kaiako to tamariki ratio for our young children is 1:7.

Our Environment

Here at Kauri Learners, we believe a child can have a nurtured sense of belonging through creating a home away from home.  Our learning spaces are designed with the heart in mind, and capturing a warm homely feel.  Our kaiako are passionate and advocate for our little learners to become valued members of our community.
We provide 3 separate but collaborative learning environments that first engage the heart and then the mind.  We encourage our tamariki to lead their own transitions at their own pace and accommodate for earlier or later transitions into the next learning space.

Natural Discoveries

At Kauri Learners, we emphasise the importance of learning through our outdoor environment, and becoming kaitiaki of our natural world and its inhabitants.  As kaiako, we strive to encourage and support our tamariki to lead their play and make new discoveries along the way

Our Nature Program - Beach Kindy

Here at Kauri Learners, we are very privileged to be placed so close to our local estuary.  In fact, it is only a 5 minute walk from our door step.  Once a week our 8 eldest tamariki walk to our local estuary to participate in our 'Beach Kindy' program.  This is a time for free exploration of Tangaroa and his many gifts.  This allows our older tamariki to feel empowered and to develop agency over their own learning, as they are trusted to explore alongside their peers and kaiako.
