"Children are searching for the meaning of life, we believe in their possibilities to grow, that is why we do not hurry to give them answers: instead we invite them back to think about where the answers might lie, the challenge is to listen" - Carlina Rinaldi

The Whare Kotete iti room is specifically designed and arranged to enhance, support and extend on infants learning and physical growth. The furniture has been arranged to create safe and comfortable learning areas specific to infants interests and developmental needs. The room caters for infants 3 months old until they are ready to transition to Whare Pihinga Nui (The over two's room) at approximately two years of age.

Room of the bigger seedlings

The Whare Pihinga Nui room is designed for children two and upward to school age. This room is specifically designed and arranged for young children to explore, learn, discover and challenge themselves with a wide range of resources and learning opportunities. We encourage children to learn through play, and our roles as educators is to develop the individual's potential.

High Quality Education

We aim to promote the development of active and confident learners, who think, question, seek information and apply knowledge to the best of their ability through the implementation of a child centred programme.
Te Whariki, the Early Childhood Curriculum of New Zealand will be the basis of our programme. Our over two’s programme will be an emergent curriculum where it develops from the needs and interests of the children. Teacher’s planning, and community events will also be incorporated into our planning to include mathematics, language, science, the arts, social sciences, technology and health.
Free play is the important part of the programme, but teachers will also provide for some structured opportunities to extend learning. From observation of the children, plans for in-depth studies of ideas and topics will occur, as well as using opportunities that may naturally occur.
The programme is holistic in nature; with a strong focus on the whole child, encompassing all aspects of their development (intellectual, physical, social and emotional). It is also a flexible learning programme; planned to adapt to the changing learning needs and interests of the children.
Infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers have different needs and these will determine the focus of the curriculum areas as it applies to each learner. These early learning areas have their own supporting philosophies.
An exciting future development will be the opportunity to experience the off-site campus at the farm where children will interact with animals, become gardeners, run in the hills or down to  the beach, and as well have a developing landscaped child centred playground.

Our Preparation for School Programme

As children get closer to school age they are supported in developing the skills required to assist them in the next stage of their educational journey. Our programme for four and a half year olds has a focus on developing the foundations of literacy and numeracy skills along with manipulative skills, creativity, independent thinking and problem solving.
